Yukon Quest Alaska Seeks Financial Solutions

Yukon Quest International, Ltd. (Alaska) is striving to overcome their current financial difficulties in preparation for the 2021 race season.

The Alaska office is working hard applying for grants, doing inventory of and selling their merchandise, incentivizing memberships, and planning future fundraising events. Raffle tickets are now available for purchase at $20 each at the Yukon Quest store in Fairbanks, Pleasant Valley Store, and Ivory Jacks. Supporters are invited to attend a spaghetti feed at Ivory Jacks on June 27 at 5pm where the drawing will take place, along with a silent action.

“Running an event of this magnitude is expensive and requires a lot of funding and support,” says John Dixon, President of the Alaska Board of Directors. “We’re heading into the 2021 race season in a difficult position with our finances as well as the added impacts of COVID-19. We understand we’re not alone in how the virus has impacted us and are aware of how this may affect our sponsorship and registration this year. We need to secure as much funding as we can to ensure we provide mushers, their dog teams, volunteers and fans with the best race possible.”

Between April 1, 2019 and March 31, 2020, over 140 stories about the Yukon Quest were shared through print, online, TV, and radio, reaching a potential online audience of more than 4 billion. The Yukon Quest also has an active and growing social media audience from all over the world. Currently, over 83,000 people follow the race year-round on Facebook, over 8,000 on Instagram, and over 6,000 on Twitter.

“The potential exposure for sponsors of the race is huge,” says Dixon. “We’re always open to discussing creative ways for sponsors to become involved in the race and to activate their sponsorship to ensure they reach their sponsorship goals.”

Several sponsorship opportunities are available with the Yukon Quest, at various levels. It’s a great opportunity to promote your business while also supporting a historic non-profit event that displays true Northern spirit.

The Yukon Quest is a free event for all spectators, and is a not-for-profit organization which appreciates and accepts direct donations. You can show your support for the race by making a donation online or at the offices in Fairbanks or Whitehorse.
