Musher Question & Answer

How many years have you been running dogs?
8

Tell us about your dogs?
This year, for the first time since we started our kennel, all 18 dogs we are training for the main race team are veterans, which is very exciting. The oldest dogs are 7 this year, and are the first pups we ever raised.

How did you get started running dogs?
I moved to Alaska in winter 2009 to take care of a friend's recreational team and was supposed to leave that spring. Never left.

What do you love most about running sled dogs?
Silence. Wilderness. Being a member of the best team of badasses on earth.

Are you a member of any other organizations involved in sled dog sports?
Stampede Dog Mushers Association

Why did you enter the Yukon Quest? What are your goals for the race?
In December 2016 I became a mom to our daughter, Ada. After 10 months of being pregnant and now 7 months of being a parent, I feel an intense need to reclaim my spot on the runners for mind, body and soul! It will be hard, probably the hardest sled dog race I have run to date, but it will be necessary. I want Ada to see that her mama can do it.

What music do you listen to on the trail?
Nothing or hip hop, indie, soul and rock

How did your dogs get their names?/ How do you choose names?
We name the dogs based on themes. Last year we had two litters, the soul singers (Ray, Otis, Dusty, Smoky, Cooke, Mavis and Joplin) and the dogs from literature (Jackson, Arlo, Figment, Treason, Tock and Jip).
