I shall always be very grateful to the exceptionally friendly Yukon Quest organizers for offering their volunteers so many diverse opportunities to support this event and experience truly amazing dogs racing through a breathtakingly beautiful wilderness.

How many years have you been running dogs?
22 years Tell us about your dogs.
My river pups: Ganges, her sister Amazon, and brothers Rio and Danube are all little mates and have finished and started 6 Yukon Quests each. Kuparuk and Warthog are brothers that have started and finished the Yukon Quest 6 times as well. Brothers Joey, Dan, Matt and sister Tana have started and finished my last 4 YQ's. Nicole has been racing since she was 2 and this will be her 6th start as a leader in the Quest for me. Shehas been raising pups for the last 2 years and this year, at 8 years old, she will have her come back not only as a team player but as one of the main leaders leading her own pups down the trail. How did you get started running dogs?
I became the owner of a litter of 13 Airedale/Husky puppies and they started my recreational sled dog team. List recent sled dog races and/or your best performances (list by race/country/year/finish position):
2004 (3rd), 2005 (4th), 2006 (4th), 2008 (3rd). What do you love most about running sled dogs?
Taking a young inexperienced dog team and watching them grow stronger and more confident. Are you a member of any other organizations involved in sled dog sports?:
Yukon Quest Finishers Club Why did you enter the Yukon Quest? What are your goals for the race?
I enjoy the competition and the community. To finish with a dog team that is happy and to improve last year's showing. |
