The votes are cast!
Tonight the Yukon Annual General Membership meeting welcomed a great number of members and elected three new directors of the board: Georgina Leslie, Mieke Evers and Rolf Schmitt. In addition Harry Kern and Joost van der Putten were re-elected for another two year term.
They will join directors Pamela Brown, Tamra Reynolds, Bev Regier, Clarke LaPrairie, and Normand Casavant as Musher's Representative.

Georgina Leslie
Born and raised in the Yukon, I have seen the race grow since 1984. Now retired, I have time and energy to put into this great event, and would like to be involved at all levels.
- Previous experience working with Boards and/or the Yukon Quest:
- Executive Director of the Yukon Quest in 2010-2011
- Actively volunteered and supported Whitehorse staff for 2012 race
- Sat on various boards and committees both as a volunteer and for an honorarium
- Worked 20 years for Parks Canada as manager and superintendant – Kluane National Park and Louisburg Fortress in Nova Scotia
Skills and/or expertise you would like to share with the Yukon Quest:
- Good financial management skills
- Know the community and local businesses very well
- Hands on support for staff
- Know the race inside and out from my work as and Executive Director
This is an event dear to my heart, I know the Board and staff well and want to support them in putting on this great task.
Mieke Evers
Why you would like to become a member of the YQIA Board of Directors:
Because it is the greatest / most exciting event of the year in Whitehorse. Love it!
Previous experience working with Boards and/or the Yukon Quest:
- Experience in dealing with volunteers
- Very creative in exploring different ways of making ends meet
Skills and/or expertise you would like to share with the Yukon Quest:
- Enthusiastic, out-going, good / quick problem solving.
- Worked all my life supporting and taking care of people with disabilities
- Been a manager over 6 years
Rolf Schmitt
I have more time available than last year and there needs to be a connection to the 3rd biggest fan community, German speaking Europe.
Previous experience working with Boards and/or the Yukon Quest:
- Six years on the Yukon Quest Board, Vice-President in 2011
- BOD for 4 years for the Wilderness Tourism Association of Yukon
- Marketing Committee for Wilderness Tourism Association of Yukon
Skills and/or expertise you would like to share with the Yukon Quest:
I have successfully running my own business (construction and tourism) for over 20 years overseas and in the Yukon. Website and database programming overseas and in Canada. Degree in foreign trade and wholesale.
The Yukon Quest is part of the Yukon and I'm a part of the Yukon.
