Musher Question & Answer

How many years have you been running dogs?
30
How did you get started running dogs?

Sprint racing in Austria.

What do you love most about running sled dogs?
Why did you enter the Yukon Quest? What are your goals for the race?
I entered because our dogs look good. As for goals, of course I have goals but I'm not going to tell anybody.
How did your dogs get their names?/ How do you choose names?

We choose each name individually. Senna was named after Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna, because the tougher the conditions were, the better he did. Fernando was named after the ABBA song, we liked the lyrics so far as dog mushing goes. Nigel is named after the XTC song, 'Making Plans for Nigel'. Rambler, 'Midnight Rambler' by the Stones, (the live version played on the radio and that was 'it'), and so on.

I always look forward to seeing Mike Sager at Trout Creek. Mike opened the cabin for all mushers. There's always a warm cabin, hot water and plenty of parking for the dog teams. I don't know if he's still doing it but I sure hope to see him this year.
