Musher Question & Answer

How many years have you been running dogs?
8
How did you get started running dogs?

I moved to Alaska in winter 2009 to take care of a friend's recreational team and was supposed to leave that spring. Never left.

What do you love most about running sled dogs?
Are you a member of any other organizations involved in sled dog sports?
Stampede Dog Mushers Association
Why did you enter the Yukon Quest? What are your goals for the race?
In December 2016 I became a mom to our daughter, Ada. After 10 months of being pregnant and now 7 months of being a parent, I feel an intense need to reclaim my spot on the runners for mind, body and soul! It will be hard, probably the hardest sled dog race I have run to date, but it will be necessary. I want Ada to see that her mama can do it.
How did your dogs get their names?/ How do you choose names?

We name the dogs based on themes. Last year we had two litters, the soul singers (Ray, Otis, Dusty, Smoky, Cooke, Mavis and Joplin) and the dogs from literature (Jackson, Arlo, Figment, Treason, Tock and Jip).

What music do you listen to on the trail?
Share a quick story about one of your indispensable Handlers

My husband Andy is the calm in the storm that is our life. I couldn't run this race or train this team or raise our daughter without him. Plus he's a Yukon Quest veteran and he's run in this direction and I haven't.

Going to the cabin just before Clinton Creek on accident and having Earl machine out, knock on the door and tell me to mush one mile to have homemade cheesecake.
