Musher Question & Answer
How many years have you been running dogs?
Tell us about your dogs?
Most of the dogs in my team are very young and participated in their first races in 2018! One of my best leaders is Dakota, ten and a half years, who completed the Finnmarkslopet 1,000 in 2010 and the Iditarod in 2015 as lead dog. What a fantastic girl! Another main leader is eleven and she acts as though she is three! She also completed all races with me since 2009 and like Dakota, has never been dropped from a race. All of the dogs on my team except for one were born in my kennel.
How did you get started running dogs?
It became my dream when I was young reading Jack London books. Right after my studies I bought my first Siberian huskies. The first race I completed with six dogs was the first time I ran on a sled. Prior to that as I was training them on dirt trails with a cart. Racing on snow was so new to me, I spent the whole time flat on my belly being pulled by the dogs!
What do you love most about running sled dogs?
I love to be in the wild with my companions and to share with them the feeling of freedom in the middle of nature while challenging and surpassing my goals.
Are you a member of any other organizations involved in sled dog sports?
Not any more
Why did you enter the Yukon Quest? What are your goals for the race?
It has been one of my dreams for a very long time. This year I am lucky to be able to run this great race and I hope to cross the finish line with happy dogs.
What music do you listen to on the trail?
Classic music, rock, pop
How did your dogs get their names?/ How do you choose names?
Most of the dogs in my team were born in my kennel in 2016. I gave them the names of Iditarod checkpoints because I was so proud to have finished that race in 2015!
