Musher Question & Answer

How many years have you been running dogs?

Tell us about your dogs?
I have only had the opportyunity to race the YQ in 2013. We are excited to travel the trail again. I'm hoping some of the "old timers" on the tweam make it to the starting line (Voiki, Cool Cat, Torrent and Rebel).

How did you get started running dogs?
I worked for Matt Hayoshida in 2008 and he introduced me to Martin Buser, who I worked for from 2010-2013, running two Iditarods out of Happy Trails Kennel.

What do you love most about running sled dogs?
The freedom of the lifestyle and the relationships with the dogs.

Are you a member of any other organizations involved in sled dog sports?
Board member: Mush with P.R.I.D.E, JR Iditarod

Why did you enter the Yukon Quest? What are your goals for the race?
With great support from boosters and sponsors, as well as my handlers Kaci, Harley and Sam, we are able to participate in this year's Yukon Quest! Our goals will depend on training but we are looking forward to competing against a strong cast of mushers.

What music do you listen to on the trail?
All of the above, audiobooks, history, "How to Speak Spanish." A lot of time I'll just turn off the headphones and listen to the dogs and nature.

How did your dogs get their names?/ How do you choose names?
We always lean towards the personalities of the dogs, as they grow we will choose names that "fit them." Music influence, time of year the pups are born, and anything that sounds cool is my naming inspiration!
