Musher Question & Answer

How many years have you been running dogs?
24
How did you get started running dogs?

Got our first Siberian Husky in 1997 and it all went downhill from there.

What do you love most about running sled dogs?
Are you a member of any other organizations involved in sled dog sports?
Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain. Gin Lovers Association of Mount Lorne.
Why did you enter the Yukon Quest? What are your goals for the race?
I truly do not know. Have fun with some new dogs on the team and aim to ensure that the team has fun too (P.S. it is a joke about me having fun on the race - I know now that is not going to happen).
How did your dogs get their names?/ How do you choose names?

We take it in turns to come up with litter themes: Louise tries to come up with sensible names; I do my best to come up with offensive names that may upset people. I asked the dogs and they don't care what they are called.

Share a quick story about one of your indispensable Handlers

They all drink too much coffee. Seriously, I seem to have the best handlers every year who join us from around the world - so far England, Scotland, Spain, Australia, Switzerland and this year, Austria.

Tell us about your favourite experience with a volunteer on the trail
Too many to mention. A special shout out to all the race staff and volunteers in Mile 101 this year (2019) as they were all absolutely amazing and did an incredible job helping look after the dogs in the storm we had whilst there.
