How did your kennel get its name?
Keystone Sled Dogs because they are so central to our lifestyle and after Michael's home province of Manitoba
How did you get started running dogs?
I first started running dogs at age 16. I took a leap to spend my summer in Sweden at short notice and fell in love with working alongside the dogs and the lifestyle I found. After many years battling Brexit I managed to find my way to Canada and live my dream full time.
What do you love most about running dogs?
I love the freedom of running dogs, and the excitement of everyday being slightly different. I love the challenges and pushing myself to do better.
Please share with us some stories or facts about your dogs that will be running in the 2025 YQ450.
I am excited to be working with my whole team. Mostly I am excited to work with Swallow. She is a yearling and this will be her first big race too, so we're in this together. When Swallow and I first started working together we had to work hard on respect and boundaries. We have bonded a lot and she often sleeps with me in my cabin. We have a long way to go but I think we will be one hell of a team.
Are you a member of any other organizations involved in sled dog sports?
N/A
Why did you enter the 2025 YQ450 and what are your goals for the race?
I entered the YQ175 to push myself outside of my comfort zone and to find what I am really capable of. I am excited for the opportunity to be out with the dogs reaping the rewards of their relationships I have been working hard on building over the summer. As a Rookie, my goal is simply to complete the race with 10 happy and healthy dogs. I'm sure as training goes on I will develop more goals for myself but as of right now, that is the most important thing to me.
What music do you listen to on the trail?
I'll be listening to a lot of country music on the trail. Mostly Luke Bryan and Colter Wall.
How did your dogs get their names/How do you choose names?
Michael named the dogs, but maybe I'll have a say if there's puppies down the road?!
