How did your kennel get its name?
How did you get started running dogs?
I spent a winter doing a workaway at Anna Bolvin’s kennel in Northern Saskatchewan. I was just supposed to be feeding and scooping poop but before I knew it she’d put me on the runners and signed me up for the races. From there I was hooked and there was no turning back.
What do you love most about dog sledding?
I love the relationship with each dog and watching them grow… the skittish dog that finally cuddles up to you, the psycho yearling that warms up to be a super leader, the dog that drove you crazy at first but you learn to understand each other, the retired fella that learns how to be a pet…
Please share any interesting stories or facts about your dogs that will be running in the 2024 race:
I don’t know exactly who I’ll be taking yet. But one of my current favorites is a young male named Lemond. He is shy and skittish and difficult to warm up to, but recently he had to live in my cabin with me for a couple of weeks recovering from an injury and we became best friends.
Are you a member of any other organizations in sled dog sports?
No
Why did you enter the 2024 Yukon Quest and what are your goals for the race?
It will be my first time running more than 100 miles so I’m very excited to spend more time on the trail and work towards dialing in my camping technique. The goal is to have fun and enjoy my rookie Yukon Quest.
Do you listen to music on the trail? If so, what types?
A variety. I like to shuffle all my Liked Songs on Spotify so I have no idea what will come next. It could jump from folk to a musical soundtrack to a violin sonata. Keeps me awake.
How did your dogs get their names?
Not my dogs.
