How did your kennel get its name?
Most of our dogs come from the Fairbanks Animal Shelter or other rescues across Alaska, so we take them in and give them a “rerun” in life.
How did you get started running dogs?
I grew up in Anchorage and my parents always took me to the Iditarod start. When I graduated high school I started working with Christine Roalofs in Anchorage and then it snowballed from there!
What do you love most about dog sledding?
I love the bond we share and how it strengthens with each mile. These dogs just really love doing what they do and it’s so rewarding being able to provide them with a means to run.
Please share any interesting stories or facts about your dogs that will be running in the 2024 race:
Over half of our race team comes from an Alaskan rescue organization. For most of them, we didn’t even know if they’d want to run long miles. They just kept stepping up with so much enthusiasm and we’re so impressed with their hardy spirits! It’s a good reminder to not overlook dogs in a rescue or shelter.
Are you a member of any other organizations in sled dog sports?
Co-President of the Alaska Skijoring and Pulk Association
Board Member of the Second Chance League
Why did you enter the 2024 Yukon Quest and what are your goals for the race?
We entered the YQ450 because it’s a great opportunity to see some new trails, support a great race organization, and get out with our pups.
Do you listen to music on the trail? If so, what types?
Anything I can sing along to, or sometimes nothing at all
How did your dogs get their names?
Lots of our dogs come to us with names already, but for those we named ourselves we just go with what seems to fit, or with a theme if we are naming multiple dogs
Share a quick story about one of your indispensable handlers:
He’s my husband!
Tell us about your favorite volunteer experience on the trail:
We are rookies in this race, but we have heard nothing but good things about the YQ volunteers and the Canadian hospitality
