How did your kennel get its name?
With a love for spending time on the land in all seasons, it seemed fitting to name the kennel after this
saying that means so much to us.
How did you get started running dogs?
I’m very fortunate to have started in sled dogs when I was an 11 year old. One day my father just started
getting huskies and the rest just kinda fell into place.
What do you love most about running dogs?
The connection with the dogs while spending time doing something we both love to do.
Please share with us some stories or facts about your dogs that will be running in the 2025 YQ450.
The team I’ll be racing is mostly a group of 5 year olds who we have raised here at our kennel.
Those dogs and I have shared some quality experiences in that time and I think they are capable of moving pretty good.
They have many special talents, but my favourite is how they teach and motivate me to be a better person.
Are you a member of any other organizations involved in sled dog sports?
Ma-Mow-We-Tak Sled Dog Racing Association
Why did you enter the 2025 YQ450 and what are your goals for the race?
The Yukon Quest has always been on my radar and I’m happy to race up in Yukon and have a 300+ miler to
race in Canada. I’m thinking of racing another well known and longer race up north next season,
What music do you listen to on the trail?
Oh let’s not get into details here, but a wide range for sure. And lots of podcasts. I’ve been meaning to get into
audio books on the suggestion of my wife, but haven’t yet. Maybe this year...
How did your dogs get their names/How do you choose names?
We take turns in our family picking themes for the litters of puppies that make up our kennel. Recent litter themes
include “ice cream flavours” and “local lakes that we travel on in our area”.
Share a quick story about one of your indispensable Handlers.
My original dog handler was my father when I first got into racing sled dogs. He still handles when he comes to
races, but our kennel is now joined by an amazing family who are the keenest handlers we could imagine. We are so lucky to have the Egerter-George family as part of our team!
Tell us about your favorite experience with a volunteer on the trail.
On the way to the Mineral Centre checkpoint in the Beargrease Marathon there is a group of people who hand
out homemade pogo sticks and beer on the side of the trail, at a spot that kinda seems like the middle of nowhere.
Meeting those people, at that moment, sure made me smile.
